Right now, I am working on step tournaments and was playing in a step 7 tournament which gives you a 7,000 starting chip stack. With blinks starting at 15-30, you have plenty of time to play.
Personally, I was in a pretty weird mood as well. I actually started chatting in the chat window. It all started when folks were complaining about me taking forever to play a hand as I was dozing off during the game.
Now, mind you, I generally play laying in bed with my iPad resting on my stomach. I say this as it is quite easy for me to doze away.
Back to the game - One thing I have noticed about these step SNGs is that the higher you go, the better players you face. It makes perfect sense as only the top two players in each tournament advance to the next round.
So these players kept doing the "zzzzzzzzzz" thing which is the universal poker sign to hurry it up. I responded with "Oh look, you guys finally figured out where the z key is".
Oh boy, you would have thought a bomb went off. Immediately, I was the villain at the table. Everyone seemed to be out to get me and they did when my KK lost to a straight which put me down to 750 in chips.
At that point, my goal was to finish in the top 4 so I could secure a ticket to the same level 7 that I was playing. If you finish fifth or sixth you actually go down in steps to 5 or 6.
I boldly predicted that I would win the tournament. I then proceeded to "type" every player at the table and critique their every play. And I mean CRITiQUE their EVERY play.
What I didn't realize was that I was putting them on tilt in doing so. The other five players wanted to bust me so bad, that they were making stupid plays to try to bust me.
I ended up wining the tournament going from 750 in chips to 42,000 by the end. I did it with no suckouts, no bad beats on other players.
Sure, I got a some cards, but you give a good poker player solid cards and he will beat 80 percent of the players out there.
At least, I did last night.
